Literature Text

     You know, it's funny.

When you were little, you were so dependent on me.

You would get me into so much trouble.

But you would cry about it later.

I used to hate your guts.

Until you were about ten, then we were close.

I would lay on top of you, and you would continue reading.

I would ask a favor, and you would do it.

I could talk to you.

I could talk about my hatred for our parents.

I could talk about my friends at school.

I could talk about getting tipsy.

And you would listen and laugh along with me.

You snuck me ice cream, but only if you got a bite.

You would never hate me.

You always kissed me good-night.

You always stuck to my side of the story.

You were so cute, with your big eyes and pigtails.

Your sandals were blue, and your dress was green.

My voice you would obey.

My eyes you could stare at forever.

We would constantly have tickle fights.

Until one of us would scream and say: ''I can't breathe!''

We never fought.

We always did everything around the house.

Now that I'm going away, I realized something.

I'm gonna miss you.

After the stress settles down, I'm gonna miss you.

To the point where it hurts.

And I wonder.

Do you sleep in my bed?

Do you still want me there?

Do you miss me?

Maybe...

How can I sleep in this dorm room?

When all I can think about is you.

Are you Ok?

Do you want to call?

I glance at the clock. 10:15

Are you still up?

Can I call you?

Yes...

     I dial your number.

When I hear your voice, I smile.

I reflect on our memories.

How are you doing?

    I want to tell you.

Before this happens.

I have a request.

That I want you to do.

Can you not cry when I leave?

Can you keep your chin up like I told you?

Remember that it's not for long.

Only a few months.

Can you remember this one thing?

I love you...

My older sister is leaving me next year to go to college, and this is some of the things she told me. Everything in this little poem is true, not one bit of it fake. If you have an older sibling, this is probably what they think of you.
